(JW Insights) Nov 8 -- US chip giant Intel plans to introduce a downgraded version of the Gaudi 2 chip to meet the latest export restrictions, ensuring shipments to China remain unaffected, reported Digitimes on November 7, citing sources from the Taiwanese supply chain.

Overall, Gaudi 2 has received orders from customers in multiple countries, with a surge in urgent orders from China.

The Digitimes report came as the Intel Innovation Taipei 2023 Technology Forum was held in Taipei on November 7.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger attended the forum and delivered a keynote speech, highlighting the importance of Taiwan’s PC and data center supply chain to Intel.

In response to the recent US export restrictions, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger previously said, "We do believe that we'll have plenty of opportunity in China continuing to deploy our products there broadly even as we comply and work with BIS specifically around the regulations that they're putting in place, particularly around high-end accelerators and AI training," according to the Digitimes report.

Digitimes’sources also revealed that Nvidia and AMD are planning to release new downgraded versions of AI GPUs tailored for the Chinese market. Orders from outside China continue to pour in.
